Assessment systems are specifically designed for creating and administering tests. One of their key features is the ability to build a question bank that serves as the foundation for your assessments.
A question bank typically contains a large pool of questions, ideally at least five times the number needed for a single test. Each question can be tagged with metadata such as difficulty level, learning objective, or topic category. Instructors can define how many questions of each type should appear in an assessment. The system then automatically selects and randomizes questions based on these criteria.
As a result, every participant receives a unique test, while retakes can be generated from the same question bank without repeating the exact same questions.
Building a question bank requires a considerable upfront investment of time. However, once it has been created, instructors no longer need to develop multiple complete tests every year, making it a highly efficient solution in the long run.

An authoring tool is software that allows you to create e-learning content and assess learners' knowledge within the same environment. Assessments can be embedded directly into an e-learning course or delivered separately.
